Dating a 149 hi comp block

by claysummers » Wed Sep 02, 2020 11:47 am

Picked up this bare block recently. Has neoprene rear seal. The bores look brand new never run although may have had a 0.020" rebore and not used but I will need to clean surface rust off the bores before I can measure accurately. Can anyone help me dated it please. Cast Mark seems to be K or M 44. Engine number H255646. Could be October or December 64?ImageImage

I just bought this to dummy up in my EKvan project so I can set up engine mounts and tunnel mods. I don't intend to build it up but might be if use to someone who is doing a resto on a late 149 EH.

Another question I have is about the wall thickness. Obviously they used a different mould to the HP blocks, there being only three welch plug holes under the manifolds. Just wondering how far they can safely be bored out.
Cheers
