Small progress today with some work underneath, mounting of rear sway bar through floor, requiring welding of some thick washes to both sides of the floor pan, then it was search for shocker washers and nuts, which evaded me for some time. Fibreglass tailgate came today and small progress on the upper tailgate. Hope to get both tailgates in primer tomorrow.

Sex on wheels mate.

Are you able to mount the sway bar uppers to the chassis rails rather than the floor pan, or are the bar outer eyes too close to the body centreline? I recall mounting an after market bar to my HX van using 90 degree angle brackets bolted through the rail. The brackets were in reality just cut from forged 50mm angle iron, but the result was high in integrity. I would be a little concerned about the floor pan being strong enough.

Howdy, the rear sway bar is a vn commodore bar that has been reshaped and retempered, to clear the shockers etc, this was done to template, that “left nut hot rods” designed as part of the conversion. I shall take a photo and post,
Today I reviewed the vintage air kit and whilst the local supplier has two dummy boxes, they wouldn’t loan them to me for a trial fit, instead I had to make a cardboard box and try and fit that, gotta say was a bit pissed about not being able to borrow the dummy for a couple of hours! Don5 know if I want to spend my money there, same price on evil bay!

Body wiring to sort today, not toooo bad, but I need to extend some of the wiring lengths so i can locate the BCM up high to the RHS of the instrument cluster.
Some pictures of several looms before and then one in the car.

Wiring loom fitted behind dash and secured, BCM box cut and fitted up next to instrument cluster, fuse box fitted where glove box is located and ECU will be fitted next to fuse box, rear loom fitted but I am going to re route most of it under the rear floor bring forward only the parts of the loom required, still looking for a rear loom from a vu ute so as to delete unnecessary sedan rear door wiring. If something comes up I can easily use that. I have also ordered a vintage air unit to fit under dash frame due space available. This will be the next component to fit before removing it all and painting underneath with Por15. Still s9me wiring for headlights switch to extent so as to fit in custom console. If you look closely all original ej switches deleted from dash fascia

Tailgate finished.
Need a upper tailgate handle, few and far between, and people are asking gold bullion for them on evil bay.

The EJ van upper tailgate handle is part number 7411267. It is the same handle as the FE, FC, FB and EK wagon lower handle, and the EK, HD and HR van upper handle.

You are a lot more likely to find the handle (at a reasonable price) on one of the wagons. If you get stuck, I have one spare. I don't particularly want to get rid of it (as I think I've only got the one spare), but if it is what you need to finish the car off let me know and I will dig it out and send it to you, gratis.

Cheers,
Harv
